Construction Industry News and Views Edition 31 - July 2010

Dear Readers
As always, in this addition we present an ensemble of articles we do consider to be industry pertinent. The Minister of Trade and Industry has announced his intention to introduce a sub-regulation for the `Energy Efficiency of Buildings` while the latest First National Bank Building Confidence Index (FNB BCI) paints a somewhat grim picture.
We report on the price gap between existing and new houses and sadly how this has turned into bust for many homebuilders. We have also provided an excellent must read legal article penned by Alastair Hay of Cox Yeats, titled "Professional Services Agreement - No Price No Pay."
There are several additional articles that we believe will be of interest including one that relates to the NHBRC. I would however like to draw your attention to the banner advertising down the right hand Column, without exception, all of them are promoting a service or product that there is a great need for among our members.
There has been a lot of talk about the much anticipated "SafeBuild" DVD series which has taken several months to finalise. The reason for it is simply that we were wanting a world class product that would impact positively on the industry and save lives. We weren't prepared to settle for anything less. For more information with regard to the end product, follow the link from the SafeBuild DVD Banner ad.
Enjoy
