Nyandezulu Community Project - Concluded
On the appeal of Mayor Sithembiso Cele of Ugu Municipality, a small group of business people operating out of KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast Region, in 2009 successfully concluded a community based construction project, in the Gamalakhe township west of Port Shepstone. That particular initiative was aimed at providing a home for two young boys who had lost their parents 3 years prior.
On 11 November 2009 at the handover ceremony, it was unanimously agreed that the occasion marked a beginning rather than an end. While presenting the Shozi family with the key to their new home, an emotionally charged Cele first made mention of what would become the group’s next community initiative, again in conjunction with Master Builders Kwazulu-Natal.
Eight months later on Thursday 22 July 2010 another handover ceremony took place, this time at the Nyandezulu site to celebrate the conclusion of the group’s second community non profit venture. It was a joyous occasion which brought with it a unique sense of contentment that comes with making a tangible difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
The project intended to provide a home for the Albertinia Gigaba, was again spearheaded by Ray Basson representing Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal, along with George Enslin of Wakefields. Albertinia is an elderly lady who had as a teacher served her community admirably. In her twilight years she found herself without a home and as the project’s beneficiary, is now able to enjoy a dignified retirement.
