JBCC
Purpose
There are a wide range of challenges to be faced in managing a construction contract and it is all too easy for those involved to be caught out by contractual problems that could have been avoided. It is critical that project teams have the knowledge to manage the contractual aspects of the business.

Time Management
Purpose

Health and Safety Representative
Purpose
The purpose of this Course is to enable Health and Safety Representatives to apply basic health and safety legislation in the form of standards and procedures governing health and safety in the workplace, to ensure that they contribute to a safe, healthy environment for themselves and others.
Entrance requirement
- GETC NQF Level 1 literacy and numeracy competencies or Grade 9 or equivalent life experience
Range
- Implications of exposure to hazardous substances and hazards include reference to a possible chain of events that could result from not removing, reducing or reporting a hazard.
- A health and safety program includes hazard identification, risk assessment and a health and safety plan.
- Statutory requirements include current national regulations applicable to construction, including acts and regulations, ordinances, by-laws, directives, standards, guidelines, and codes, issued by a legislative body such as parliament, provincial administrations, local authorities and other bodies so empowered by any of the former.
- Regarding Acts and Regulations, all pertinent national legislation is included.

Health and Safety Supervisor
Purpose
The purpose of this Course is to enable Health and Safety Supervisor to develop, implement and monitor a Health and Safety site plan, identify specific hazards related to the construction environment and supervise the implementation of steps to limit damage to persons and property.

- Communication at NQF Level 3.
- Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 3.

- Health and Safety Legislation and Regulations pertaining to a construction project.
- Local by-laws.
- Principles of safety management systems.
- Preventative strategies for safety.
- Components of a safety plan.
- Company policies, procedures and systems with regard to Health and Safety.
- Hazards pertaining to working in confined spaces, elevated heights and in traffic.
- Hazards associated with working with hazardous materials and how to handle, store, transport and utilize such material.

Foreman Development (Introduction)
Purpose
Having recognised that many foreman on our construction sites have not been formally trained as foreman, but have risen through the ranks as a result of their technical skill and that there is a need in the industry for the Construction Foremen to be equipped not just with the skills of productivity and supervision, but also of mentorship, the Master Builder Association has prepared a programme on An Introduction to Foreman Development.

- Environmental initiatives on a Construction Project

- Each module will be taught over a period of 3 to 5 days, where theoretical teaching will take place and a portfolio and of evidence completed.
- One module will be taught per month.

Foreman Development (Advanced)
Purpose
The construction industry has recognised that there is a need in the industry for the Construction Foremen to be equipped not just with the skills of productivity and supervision, but also of mentorship, the Master Builder Association has prepared a programme on Advanced Foreman Development.
