LETTER OF INVITATION FOR CONTRACTORS SURVEY

We would like to invite you to participate in this research project, with this letter is a short questionnaire requesting you to complete it. The current research project is a doctorate study being conducted at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Johannesburg. This research project is under the supervision of Prof. T.C. Haupt and Prof. J.H. Pretorius. The research topic is: "A Construction Health and Safety Performance Improvement Model for South African Small and Medium Enterprises".

As part of this research we need to test the validity of the measures in improving H&S, we would like to get information on health and safety (H&S) performance measures that you are currently using to monitor H&S performance at your project level and if the measures improved performance e.g. reduction of accidents, injuries, illnesses, diseases, absenteeism etc.. This tool has been developed by the help of a panel of experts in H&S. We would appreciate if you kindly oblige and assist in any way possible. By doing so, you will be adding valuable contribution towards the expansion of knowledge in an area which is both timely and very important in the South African construction environment and the economy as a whole. 

The questionnaire is tailored towards SENIOR MANAGEMENT PERSONNEL i.e. company directors/owners, project managers, construction managers or H&S officer/managers, who have necessary information pertaining to H&S practice in your projects. The answering of the questionnaire will take approximately 20 minutes.

You and your company are assured of complete confidentiality and should you wish to know the findings of the research, the faculty will gladly send you a summary of the results. Please answer the questions TRUTHFULLY AND SINCERELY so as to help us improve health and safety performance.
