Zululand Regional Round Up - January 2012

Welcome back after a well deserved break. We started the year off running with our CSI project and are currently assisting the Izulu orphanage and Thuthukani School.  We are working closely with Gavin Eichler from Zululand Centre for Sustainable Development and together we will achieve our objectives for the year.  Our plea to members is for assistance and donations relating to, labour, paint, wood, tiles, etc.  In conjunction to renovating classrooms at various schools we are also repairing desks while running upliftment and training programs.

On the Health and Safety front, we are pleased to announce that we will shortly be adding another offering to our list of membership services.  Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal will be going mobile with a health clinic on wheels, performing on-site medicals to all workers who require it. Medical’s examinations will be conducted by qualified occupational health practitioners and overseen by an occupational medical team of experts. 

News with regards to contractual and legal services is that we have managed to mediate a payment dispute between a member and a contractor. A substantial amount was paid out at the beginning of December and the balance is to be settled on project completion.  Should you require advice with regard to disputes of this nature, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

The Zululand health and safety forum is hosting an open meeting on 16 Feb and we will be presenting our Safe-Build DVD so please join us.

We remind you that training and compliance is a must for all employers and as January is the beginning of the year when things tend to be a little hectic, we scheduled our first run of courses for late in February. Please make a note,  first aid level 1 course 20 to 22 Feb and a SHE Rep course 23 to 24 Feb to take place at our Zululand office in Empangeni.  For all your other training requirements, let me know and I will do my best to facilitate it for you.
