House Simpson was a simple postwar single storey house and the assignment at commencement, was to add second storey while maintaining the elegance of the original structure. As the project progressed, it became evident that rather than simply capturing the style of an era, the client envisaged taking it one step further by incorporating a modern look and feel while also creating flow from inside to out. The project evolved into a collaboration between contractor and owner, drawing on the builder's knowledge of what works and what doesn't.

As work began reaching completion, areas not included in the renovation such as the garage, outside quarters and the boundary wall seemed somewhat unsightly and out of place. New plans were submitted and although the contract price increased by 15%, the client was exceedingly pleased with what was ultimately achieved.
