Debbie Gowar - Conference Co-ordinator
After matriculating in 1984, our Conference Co- Ordinator Debbie Gowar studied a 3 year National Diploma in Hotel Management. Debbie achieved the Excellent Service award and also won the best Thesis award, as well as obtaining a distinction in Hotel Law and Hotel Practice.
After completing her practicals at the Umhlanga Sands Hotel and the Cabana Beach Hotel in Umhlanga, she moved on to become Manageress at the Café Continental at the La Lucia Mall Shopping Centre. After managing the Restaurant for 2 years, she moved on to join Aladdins Caterers as their Conference Co-Ordinator, where she organized and arranged all there outside events
Debbie worked there for some time until the business was sold and taken over by Gooderson Leisure Group. She stayed on for another year and then decided to try something different. She attended the Durnford Computer Training College where she did a PC Executive Course. Debbie then opened her own Cleaning Business which she ran for 6 years. Occasionally, on weekends and when staff members went on leave, she would help out at the Master Builders Permanent Exhibition Centre in Westville.
In 2002, Debbie was approached by the Executive Director of the Master Builders Association and offered an opportunity to manage the Conference Facilities at the Master Builders Centre. Under her supervision, the conference offering has grown rapidly, with all 5 venues regularly booked out.
