Nature was ultimately the 'client' in the design and construction of this unique home on KZN's South Coast.
With the ground sloping rapidly down to the river alongside the golf course, ground beams were constructed to the main bedroom and concrete columns to the Balau deck support structure. It is here that an Umdoni tree rises majestically through the deck which skirts the house, and is stylishly completed at the pool terrace.
The selective use of natural materials and the subtlety of modern finishes, combined with quality workmanship give this home its aura of restrained luxury, which makes it a worthy winner.
HIGHLY COMMENDED PROJECTS | "House M Giuricich at Zimbali Estate" by Graeme Kerr Building Contractors cc This R3.8 million contract presented numerous challenges, all of which were dealt with to the client's total satisfaction, who noted that it "was a pleasure to work with this team". Amongst the contractor's difficulties was the fact that the professional team and owner were all based in Gauteng, which resulted in very few meetings. In addition to this, they had very little knowledge of the conditions as Zimbali and they, of course, had to comply with Zimbali Estate's labour and vehicle access regulations. However, in spite of these setbacks, the standard of the finished plastering was deemed to be excellent.
And the final result thanks to their dedication... a spectacular contemporary two-storey home! |
