"Toyota Test Track", by Stedone Mechanicos Building cc
With a policy of 'made by Toyota' and not 'made in South Africa' or any other specific country, Toyota needed a test track and special effects facility to test all their new cars, ensuring they meet international standards.
Indeed all work had to be carried out to very high international tolerances, and personnel from Toyota Japan kept a beady eye on the contractors at critical stages during the project.
Also, because Toyota required the new facility as part of its global expansion in South Africa and to boost its international exports, the test track had to be completed within six months under extremely onerous penalty clauses.
The project was given the thumbs up by Toyota for being successfully completed on time and within budget.
