"Club Marina" by Stewcon
Club Marina is a share block situated next to the Ifafa River in Ifafa Beach on KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast. On the 17th of June 2008 the Ifafa River flooded its banks tragically leaving only tips of roofs, protruding above the water line. While insurers did pay residents out, the development was located under the 100 year flood line resulting in a significantly high excess charges levied against claimants.
Park administrators realized that payouts simply weren’t going to be enough to enable flood victims to purchase a new home or to build and took the decision to give the residents land higher up from the river, a new start, a new home and a chance to live without fear of flooding.
Suppliers to Stewcon contributed by providing exceptionally good rates on materials needed and the overall building cost averaged out at R3000.00 per sqm, including the architect’s fees, excavating equipment and engineer’s fees.

 | KwaNgwenya Low Cost Housing Project by Stedone Mechanicos Building (Pty) Ltd This housing development is part of the Department of Human Settlements initiative towards the provision of housing for the disadvantaged. There are 560 houses in the Ubombo area, approximately 30km outside Mkhuze. The construction of a rural house involves the casting of a raft slab, the construction of a blockwork superstructure, the erection of an external long drop (VIP) toilet and the inclusion of a fibre cement roof. The size of the house is 36m² with two bedrooms and a living room. All works to be done on the project is undertaken using local labour. |
