2010 Awards - Industrial Buildings, Over R40 MILLION

WINNER

"Spar Distribution And Wharehouse", by Stefanutti Stocks Building KZN

The refrigeration warehouse covers a total area of 814m², with a 20m high roof, concrete bases, columns with a structural steel lattice girder arrangement and a soft roof.

The walls are insulated cladding providing insulation for the freezer section which will operate at minus 25ºC.  The 16.2 high concrete columns for the warehouse were cast in two lifts.  First an 11m lift, followed by a 5.2 lift.  This complex task was achieved successfully by utilizing tremie pipes to minimize concrete segregation, special formwork releasing agents and high frequency external and internal vibration equipment.

The ancillary buildings consist of concrete frames enclosed by brickwork and large aluminium framed windows. The external earthworks are prepared for a possible future extension, with premix parking areas and large concrete hardstand areas for bulk loading of articulated trucks.
