Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal launched its Training Academy, “by Builders for Builders” on 23 April 2013 and in attendance were representatives from government departments, the building industry and educational institutions.
The Academy is housed at the Master Builders Centre in Westville and boasts the necessary training facilities including an IT lab, with further access available at our satellite offices throughout KwaZulu-Natal.
For a long time the construction industry has made reference to the dearth of skills in the industry, citing the practical disbandment of the apprenticeship system, the challenges of the SETA system and the quality of education and training being offered in certain instances.
The Association recognised this impasse, hence was born the vision to make construction a career of choice.
As an Employer Organisation, the Association has taken cognisance of the New Growth Path initiatives, the National Planning Commission Vision 2030 and the Skills Accord and is committed to skills development initiatives.
A key priority has been creating awareness of construction related disciplines at school level which resulted in successfully hosting a career day and visiting schools, thereby exposing learners to various options and career paths.
The training academy is accredited by CETA for the following qualifications:
National Certificate: Construction Contracting
National Certificate: Supervision of Construction Processes
National Certificate: Construction Health and Safety
The training programmes are intended to provide access to currently employed candidates, unemployed candidates and school leavers, as well as to facilitate workplace training.
