CALLS FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

As you are aware we are commencing with the refurbishment of our Head Office in Westville and have appointed a Contractor who will be commencing with the works on Monday, 7 December.  The Association has resolved to use this construction work as a platform to provide certain skills transfer and enterprise development opportunities.  The idea is that one or more so called Emerging Members will be provided the opportunity to team up with the main contractor with a view to observing and learning about certain aspects of the contract.  The Association will be paying the Contractor to create this opportunity and the Emerging Member/s will need to commit themselves with the appropriate time to take advantage of this opportunity.

”Emerging” a general term which is used to broadly describe contractors or enterprises who come from historically disadvantaged backgrounds and are growing and developing in order to increase their capacity to perform contracting work.                                                                                                                                                

The opportunities that will be provided will probably include:

1. Contractual training on the JBCC documents. The successful applicant will observe all aspects of the management of the contract relating to the JBCC document, site meetings and matters incidental thereto. The applicant will also be able to attend a formal JBCC training seminar and gain experience on all aspects thereof.
2. Health and Safety. The successful applicant will observe all the Health and Safety activities relating to this contract and gain an opportunity to become familiar with Health and Safety best practice and legal requirements.
3. Other technical aspects. There may be opportunities for the successful applicant to gain a degree of skills transfer on various of the construction aspects of the job.

1. A full description of why the applicant considers itself to be an Emerging Contractor;
2. A brief profile of the applicant, the nature of work that it has undertaken to-date as well as the nature and scope of work it intends to undertake in future, along with it’s projected growth and development path.
3. A written motivation as to why the applicant believes it is an appropriate beneficiary and what it expects to gain from the process.
