Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal Goes Green
Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal encourages Green Building initiatives and chooses to lead by example. The greening of our Westville Premises is now underway and as we endure a huge amount of disruption, we contemplate the significance of this undertaking and what it means in the bigger scheme of things.
Last Friday afternoon at the Association, we had a screening of the Leonardo DiCaprio produced documentary “The 11th Hour”. The Association employs people from all walks of life and felt that conveying the immense threat that climate change poses; would evoke a sense of purpose and pride among staff when considering our own initiative.
For those who have possibly heard about Global Warming yet don’t fully understand what the ramifications are, I highly recommend viewing “The 11th Hour”. This particular production puts the threat of climate change into very clear perspective and encourages everybody to do their bit.
While the message is Doom and Gloom, catastrophe can be avoided with Political Will and Global effort. Political will on part of governments to reduce CO2 emissions and simple effort on the part of individuals.
Simple actions that help reduce global warming:
- Reduce, Re-use, Recycle
- Use Less Heat
- Use Less Air Conditioning
- Replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs.
- Turn Lights Off
- Drive Less and Drive Smart
- Buy Energy-Efficient Products
- Use Less Hot Water
- Plant a tree (plants absorb carbon dioxide)
- Encourage others to also conserve
While we enter into the final day of the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference; spare a thought for World Leaders, the time has come for them to lead, our future depends on it.
