Big News coming out of Richards Bay is that the John Ross Highway Development appears to be back on track. Towards the end of 2009, work came to a standstill due to cost cutting measures by the KwaZulu-Natal Treasury; however in the 2010/2011 budget, R130 million has been allocated towards it.
uMhlathuze News (Official newsletter of the uMhlathuze Municipality) informs us that DIM Construction has been awarded the 13-month contract valued at R50,27 million, which they say includes the 5,5km section from the N2 to the Mondi intersection, while the 3,5km section from the Mondi intersection to the Alton intersection, was awarded to Sanyati Construction JV. This 11-month contract is valued at R48,68 million and also includes the Foskor and East Central Arterial intersections.
The Zululand Golf Day, a firm favorite on our local events calendar is scheduled to take place on the 30th of April. This year it will be somewhat different as it to be hosted at the Richards Bay Country Club and won’t be a shotgun start.
