Regional Round Up: Midlands
The coming of the new year has brought some new and exciting prospects to the Midlands region. With several projects planned for the upcoming months, we see a slow but encouraging improvement in the quantity of work that’s around. Our Midlands NHBRC courier service is certainly giving us hope as the applications for new homes are trickling in considerably faster than they did last year. Training is also becoming a feature in the region with plenty of promising modules scheduled for the upcoming months. The first and most exciting planned is the introduction of our apprenticeship program tailored for Technical School leavers. It will see members being able to take on learners that have passed matric, and put them through a program that is funded mostly by the CETA. The Association will assist members with the registration of those learners along with the necessary applications for funding. We are hoping that this program will over the next few years; go a long way towards reducing the skill shortage in this area. We will also continue with our subsidised training program which encourages members to provide training while only having to pay a percentage of the market value of selected modules. Having trained some 50 people towards the end of last year, this has already been relatively successful. We encourage all of you to monitor communication from the Association as there is going to be some great value for money to members, over the next few months. With many other exciting things scheduled for this year, my message to you is WATCH THIS SPACE, and I remind you that should have any questions, you are most welcome to contact the Association’s Midlands regional office.
From Gareth and the Midlands team, we wish you a profitable 2010.
