1,500,000 man hours without a lost time injury

The night of 21 July 2010 was indeed a special occasion and cause for a double celebration for Stefanutti Stocks Building KZN, at a function attended by special guests FEM and Master Builders KZN, professionals, clients, subcontractors & staff.

Managing Director, Howard Schwegmann proudly announced that their R540 million Liberty Life project in Umhlanga, had achieved 1,500,000 man hours without a lost time injury. This included hours worked by all sub-contractors as well. Mr Neels Nortje, Health and Safety Manager of Master Builders KZN stated that this site is one of only two construction sites in KZN to have achieved this.

Work on this project began in 2008 and the construction team has won numerous awards in both the regional and national MBA safety competitions in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Some of these awards include:

Even more noteworthy is the fact that the company itself, Stefanutti Stocks Building KZN, also recently achieved 1,000,000 man hours without a lost time injury. According to Thelma Pugh, managing director of FEM and Neels Nortje the Health and Safety Manager for Master Builders KZN, this is the first construction company in KZN, and possibly in South Africa, to have achieved this safety milestone.

Neels Nortje added that it's no surprise that Stefanutti Stocks Building KZN achieved this milestone as their safety record has always been impeccable with the numerous safety awards they win each year bearing testimony to this fact. The company was recently audited by the Master Builders KZN and for the third year running achieved a five star rating. Again, they are only one of two construction companies in KZN to achieve this.

Howard Schwegmann further went on to explain that “Safety is the first item on our agenda at company management meetings where it is always stressed that safety is not to be compromised for cost. Management of Stefanutti Stocks Building takes responsibility for safety and leads by example. We as a company recognize our responsibilities for the health and safety of our employees, clients, contractors and the public alike.”
