Longspan Gutters is proud to announce and celebrate its 30 year anniversary (1980 to 2010).
 Established in 1980 in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal by Gus Behn Snr., Longspan Gutters has steadily grown into a group of well-established offices, with a “hands-on” management team of highly motivated people who strive for business excellence.
A major contributing factor to our success is in our strong management team; we’re passionate people who love what we do. Gus Behn Jnr. joined the family business in 1994 (16 years) and worked closely with his father for a number of years until his retirement from the business a few years back. Gus Behn Jnr. then assumed full responsibility for the group. We’ve all worked hard to grow our business organically, and it’s been an incredibly moving and rewarding experience to work with such wonderful people in our business. I’m truly blessed to work with incredibly talented and motivated people who have all become an integral part of our family business culture.
Our group General Manager and Director, Paul Marais has been managing the companies with Gus Behn Jnr. since 1999 (11 years). Our senior Sales Consultant, Bruce Mitchell has been in our employ since 1999 (11 years), our Sales Manager Mark Boggon has been with our company since 2000 (10 years), and Wendy Austen our Accounts Manager, since 2003 (7 years). We have numerous employees who have been in our employ for similar and longer periods of time, thus adding to the vast pool of knowledge and experience which we all share.
As a management team, we share a common goal; to promote and uphold our belief of being honest and ethical at all times. Our business integrity is of utmost importance to us, and there is absolutely no compromise from our management team in this regard.
 We’ve forged strong relationships with our preferred suppliers, and in doing so, have secured sound business relationships based on trust and a mutual understanding of the continuity of our supply chain. We’ve never “dropped” our suppliers based on higher prices and this has ultimately ensured that we maintain preferential treatment from our suppliers who’ve also become mutual friends.
Longspan Gutters is a forward-thinking company; we remain ahead of our competitors by constantly improving on our product offering by introducing new products and services to the South African market. Our approach to the development and implementation of new products and services in the South African market allows us to remain at the forefront of international trends and new technology.
We’re proud to have close associations through international companies in being Authorized Distributors for these world-renowned brands of machines and specialized tooling;

- Knudson Manufacturing – Gutter and roofing roll-forming machinery
- Malco Tools – Specialized construction tooling
We’re also regional members of the Master Builders Associations in both the Western Province and KwaZulu-Natal, and are a Founder Member in the Proudly South African campaign. In 2006, Longspan Gutters scooped the SERVICE OF THE YEAR 2006 SMME award in the prestigious Proudly South African Home Grown Awards Ceremony. We recognize the importance of our contribution towards a better South Africa, and have for the past 3 years ensured that both our Cape Town and Durban companies are fully BEE compliant.  We’re proud to announce that in conjunction with our 30 year celebrations, Longspan Gutters is embarking on a massive expansion drive and has purchased large portions of land in strategically situated high-security industrial parks; Atlas Gardens in Cape Town, and Riverhorse Valley Business Estate in Durban on which to develop two new office and warehouse facilities. The ease of accessibility to our new office and warehouse facilities from major national freeways will save our customers time in travel and traffic congestion thus enhancing their experience in doing business with Longspan Gutters. Our expansion in both regions will ensure that we continue to remain ahead of our competitors in that we’ll be launching an entirely new range of products and services to offer our customers.
Our growth plans are in line with our core business activities; we will continue to compliment our product offering by introducing value-added products and services which will ultimately ensure that we maintain full control in the quality of our manufacturing process, but so too do we endeavor to maintain an affordable and competitive price structure for our customers alike.
Our service to our customers is key, and in operating from larger premises, we aim to improve further on our product and service offering.
With offices, manufacturing and warehouse facilities in both Cape Town and Durban, and a sales facility in Pietermaritzburg, we’re geared to offer our products and services with our mobile factory units throughout the provinces of the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Longspan Gutters is a full service gutter business; we offer our customers solutions to their rain water problems. We install a full range of seamless aluminum gutters, purpose-made box gutters, purpose-made flashings and cladding, fascia and barge-boards, and we manufacture a full range of all gutter products and accessories within our factories in Cape Town and Durban. Our strict quality control in manufacturing world-class products has afforded us the reputation of being South Africa’s leading gutter business; a reputation which we strive to uphold at all costs. We don’t compromise on quality, and our customers will continue to enjoy our innovative new products and improvements which are on an on-going basis.
