Zululand Regional Round Up - May

ZululandWith Best practice audits in full swing, star grading audits running on schedule and with the updating of members details for our In-Contact Program, the Zuluand Region has been a hive of activity. The uploading of Find-a-Builder member profiles is still very much on the go, they are really looking impressive and from feedback received from members, it’s paying off already.

With regard to planning and development issues, news coming out of Zululand is that the uMhlathuze Municipality has been given new delegated powers bringing it inline with the Constitution and the Municipal Systems Act.  All town planning related matters is now identified as a local government function.  In preparation, the Municipality has created a Development Administration Unit.  This now means that application must be made to the City, before land and buildings within the Municipal boundary may be used or developed for any specific purpose. (More detail available on uMhlathuze website).

Listed below are some known projects for which proposals should be called for shortly, as stated by USDC:

  1. The Ridge Development
  2. Zumanzi Development
  3. Eco Estate (Meerensee)
  4. Retirement Village (Meerensee)
  5. Richards Bay IDZ – Site 1 A

Some feedback with regards to the IDT dispute, Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal is not satisfied with answers received thus far and we will not let up until a full explanation is given, and questions relating to this matter are answered to our satisfaction.

For a number of reasons our annual fishing competition was postponed, the weather however turned nasty that weekend anyway, so thank goodness it was. We anticipate hosting it in the early part of November so please look out for it on our networking notice board.

The Zululand AGM took place on 1 June 2010.  The committee remains unchanged: Chairman Ryan Benians, Vice Chairman Francois Louw and fellow committee members, Kevin Dicks, Colin Cozens, Elvin Venter, Dave Kunneke, Mark Barker and Ryan Kewley.

We wish them all the best for their upcoming term in office.
