King Shaka International Airport (KSIA)

King Shaka AirportKing Shaka International Airport is the brand new state of the art Durban International Airport which is located, along with the Dube Trade Port, at the original La Mercy Airport site: 35km north of Durban on the Dolphin Coast, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

Important notice:

The cutover date from the current airport to the new airport has been confirmed as Saturday 01 May. The airport is at La Mercy & will be known as King Shaka International.

All flights into Durban up until and including Friday 30 April 2010 will land at the current airport. Around midnight, all aircraft will then be ferried across to La Mercy, and from 01 May 2010, all flights will officially operate out of the new airport.

This is the first time a complete relocation will occur, so if passengers arrive at the current airport, they will have a 65km drive north to the new location.....So doubt they will make their flights!!!!

The airport is like a shopping mall - 55 retailers to be exact, but it is quite high tech. The runway is considerably longer than the current one coming in at just under 4km, vs. the current 2.4km, so all aircraft will have improved performance in bad weather. It is the first airport that is "fully equipped" to handle the A380 and has 2 dedicated parking bays just for these aircraft.
