Green Building Council Appoints Chief Executive Officer
In anticipation of the next phase of its growth plan the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer. Mr Brian Wilkinson, a 27 year property sector veteran was appointed to the position as Chief Executive Officer. Wilkinson held several managerial positions in the property sector with Old Mutual.
In the position as CEO of the GBCSA he will be responsible for application of the vision of the GBCSA, the growth of its next development phase, and the day to day management of the organisation. He believes his task will only be completed when the arguments for or against the sustainability in the design, construction and use of buildings is no longer an issue.
The GBCSA was launched during 2007 and is one of 80 national green building councils world-wide. The GBCSA has some 850 member organisations and currently operates two grading categories for office and retail buildings. A category for multi-unit residential developments is taking shape. There are five graded green buildings in the country and more than thirty buildings registered for a Green Star South Africa grading."
