Paint Contractors Business Manual authored by Association Member
Kevin McGeer, managing member of Global Coatings has published a book which is essentially a comprehensive business manual for paint contractors, that has been endorsed by the South African Paint Manufacturers Association (SAPMA).
Kevin informs us that he did it to assist those thinking of getting into paint contracting as well as existing paint contractors, who wants to expand and run their businesses more profitably. It is not only for the paint contractor, it's also aimed at waterproofing, damp-proofing and protective coating service providers.
"This book does not intend to explain the different specifications of painting systems used in the many types of protective paint contracting, but rather attempts to guide the owner of the paint contracting business through the minefields and opportunities that the owner will experience.
In our competitive environment, we need all the tools to help us succeed. I have been in the paint contracting field for over twenty years and have helped build up an existing paint contracting company from humble beginnings to a company employing over 400 employees, then later I started and built up my own paint contracting company and then expanded that company nationally through franchising.
You need an edge at every corner, in order to be better than your competitors and to make more margin than you used to.
Some people think that paint contracting companies are only run by blue collar workers, who struggle to do anything else. I have sat at dinner parties where snobs hear I am in paint contracting. They think I do eclectic or nevus painting (since they hear I have made money somehow, and forbid that it is with a pickup truck hiring blue collar laborers)
I have seen doctors, lawyers and accountants running highly successful paint contracting companies, who would not swap their new careers back to their old ones for anything. I have also seen many women running their own painting teams, having fun and making loads of money. Running a successful paint contracting company, actually can free up your time. You can actually operate your company as a project management company and outsource almost all functions.
Paint contracting, run properly, is a highly sophisticated business, with the help of all the business tools that one can get.
This manual has been written for exactly that purpose - to assist you in making better decisions and making higher margins.
Included are over 200 pages of templates, ( When this icon resembling a CD drive appears, it means that there is template on the CD-ROM that relates to that specific topic) to assist you in streamlining your business. These templates are in Microsoft Word and Excel 2007. You may have to download a buffer program to read them if you do not have this program.
Pease note that this book deals mostly with the business side of running your paint contracting business and does not allow for the corporate governance, health and safety issues, special licenses needed and so on of each specific area or city you may live in. Use this book as a guideline to these issues and do your research. You can change any number with a $ sign to reflect your own currency.
So enjoy the book as a reference manual and email me with any questions you may have at info@franchisekit.co.za or visit www.franchisekit.co.za ".... Kevin McGeer
