JT Ross Project Scoops Prestigious Fulton Award
First of all I would like to thank Petrus Jooste for the invitation extended to our Association to attend the KwaZulu-Natal leg of the Fulton Awards roadshow extravaganza which I was privileged to attended on Tuesday night.
Petrus is the Education and Training Manager for the Cement and Concrete Institute and the Fulton Awards is the gala event hosted by the Concrete Society (CSSA), at which excellence in use of concrete, receives recognition.
The Society put together a superb audiovisual production explaining the intricacies and scope of each project entered, and it has to be said, I was astounded by the sheer magnitude of what some of the entrants had achieved. Many of these projects were 2010 World Cup initiatives which meant that excellence was achieved, while chasing stringent deadlines.
For the 2011 event, they received a record number of entries, with 9 of the 31 submitted, reigning from KwaZulu-Natal. It could not have been an easy task for the judges as every structure entered is both innovative and aesthetically appealing. Award categories comprised of Civil Engineering Projects, Building Projects, Concrete in Architecture, Innovative Technologies, Unique Design Aspect, and Construction Techniques.
The Big Winner on the day from KwaZulu-Natal was Blackburn Pedestrian Bridge which scooped the award for best Civil Engineering Project. The contractor involved was a long serving member of the Association JT Ross, who has once again done us proud.
Congratulations to all the winners.
