Companies Act and Regulations Commenced on 1 May 2011
 It was intended that the new Companies Act, 2008 (ACT NO.71 OF 2008) would commence on 1 October 2010 but due to a number of delays, the date of commencement was determined by President Jacob Zuma in terms of Proclamation No. R. 32, 2011 published in Government Gazette No. 34239 of 26 April 2011.
The date of commencement of 1 May 2011 was determined in the proclamation which was signed by the President and the Minister of Trade and Industry on 19 April 2011.
Dr Rob Davies, Minister of Trade and Industry in terms of Government Notice No. R 351 dated 26 April 2011, also published the Companies Regulations, 2011 in Government Gazette No. 34239 of 26 April 2011.
The schedule containing the Companies Regulations are in two parts spread over 320 pages contained in Government Gazette 34239 of 26 April 2011.
