KZN Consumer Protection Bill Consultation Meetings
 Part A of Schedule 4 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa Act of 1996 provides the functional areas of concurrent National and Provincial Legislative Competence. Consumer protection is such a competence.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism announced that following the promulgation of the Consumer Protection Act No 68 of 2008 (CPA) on 1 April 2011, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism has developed a Provincial Consumer Protection Bill which has been aligned with the CPA.
The Bill has been approved by the Provincial Cabinet and the Department will embark on public consultation on the proposed legislation between 6 & 23 June 2011 at venues across the Province.
The purpose of the public consultation is to afford an opportunity to the citizens of the Province to take part in the crafting of legislation that will protect them as consumers.
