New Director-General For Department of Labour Appointed

SA GovernmentNkosinathi Nhleko was appointed Director-General of the Department by Labour Minister, Mildred Oliphant. He succeeded controversial Jimmy Manyi, now head of the Government Communication and Information Service( GCIS), who was suspended by a former Minister of Labour. Sam Morotoba has been acting in the position after the suspension of Manyi.

Between 1987 and 1989, Nhleko was a branch organiser for the Transport and General Workers Union and became General Secretary of that trade union from 1989 to 1993 when he became a member of the National Assembly. As a member of parliament between 1994 and 2005, he served in various capacities including chairperson of the ad-hoc committee on the funding of political parties, chairperson of the portfolio committee on public service and administration, chairperson of the ANC caucus, ANC chief whip and also a member of the Judicial Service Commission(JSC).

He also worked as a deputy municipal manager for the Umhlatuze municipality and with the Department of Correctional Services as a regional commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal and also head of the specialised anti-corruption unit in the Department of Public Service and Administration.

Nhleko has a diploma in labour law from the Graduate Institute of Management and Technology  and is currently studying for  a master`s degree in leadership and change management.
