Water Calculator and the Marginal Cost of Water
The cost of water from Ethekweni Municipality, like income tax, is charged on a progressive scale, in other words, the more water you use the higher the bracket you are in.
Any water savings you make would therefore be at your marginal rate. See attached water calculator where you can input your monthly kiloliter usage as per you Ethekweni account and understand exactly how your account is made up and the impact of any saving of water usage you make.
If you use 35 kiloliters per month and start saving 2 kiloliters per month the savings would equate to R67.14 per month. This might not sound a lot to you but with simple arithmetic it amounts to R805.68 per year or R8,056.80 every 10 years. Just imagine, in 10 years time you could invite all your friends around and spend R8,056.80 on one heck of a party celebrating the amount of money you have saved.
And how do you save water? Well, it’s common sense really – shower instead bath, water efficient showerheads, less washing of cars and watering of gardens, filling your swimming pool with soil and planting meilies, ……………
Seriously, if the money savings is not that important to you, water is a precious resource and will become increasingly under pressure so for the sake of the country and all who live in it, please conserve.
