SafeBuild Newsletter Edition 5

Welcome to the 5th edition of SafeBuild Newsletter  

 

SafeBuild is a series of Occupational Health & Safety Training DVD's for the South African Construction Industry. It has been locally produced by a specialist team of technical and production experts and is endorsed by both the Department of Labour and Federated Employers Mutual (FEM) The SafeBuild DVD series can be watched in 5 different languages and covers 20 topics! 

 

SafeBuild News is a monthly newsletter that will look at the various topics that are covered on the SafeBuild DVD and provide you the reader with useful tips and advice to help you:

Scaffolding      


Scaffolding

 

Scaffolding is an essential and highly risk filled component of most building projects and its safe implementation is absolutely vital. All scaffold work must be overseen by a Scaffold Supervisor. A Supervisor, Scaffold Erector, Scaffold Inspector and Team Leader must be competent and fully trained to ensure safe scaffolding on site. These appointments must be made in writing using an appropriate appointment form.  
 
Weekly scaffold inspections must be conducted by the scaffold inspector as well as after inclement weather and alterations.  Make sure that these reports are recorded and kept up to date in the register

Scaffolding Safety Tips: 
 
Always make sure that scaffolding is erected and dismantled in terms of the SANS code 10-085. Make sure that the correct Safe/Unsafe signage are used and prevent unauthorised persons from using, altering or amending scaffolding.
