Youth in Construction Week - KZN 2009: 4 - 6 August 2009
The National Construction Week of the Department of Public Works focuses on the importance of the construction industry as a national asset and its critical link to skills development, infrastructure creation and service delivery. Following the success of the 2008 exhibition in Gauteng, the Construction Industry Development Board (cidb), the SA Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors (SAFCEC), the SA Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), the Gauteng Master Builders Association (GMBA) and FET Colleges are repeating the initiative of this unique exhibition. The 2009 Youth in Construction week will compliment the National Construction Week of the Department of Public Works and will be hosted in Gauteng, Cape Town and Kwa-Zulu in 2009.
This letter is specifically aimed at the KZN event, where approximately 2000 learners from the KZN region will have the opportunity to be exposed to career paths available in the construction industry. The event offers stakeholders across the industry an opportunity to show young learners the best that the industry can offer in skills and opportunities, as well as providing role models. This is your chance to showcase industry diversity under one roof, and your company can become a part of it!
Further to our experience at the Gauteng YIC expo in 2008, the decision has been made to make YIC 2009 an Interactive Career Exhibition. Exhibitors are requested to include construction related activities that improve the interaction between the learner and the exhibitor, as it adds to the attractiveness of each stand and creates an authentic learning opportunity for students.
The target group in 2008 was Grade 8 - 12 learners, but will be expanded to include 1st year University, University of Technology and FET college students during the afternoon sessions to give them a deeper understanding of the careers they have already embarked on and to engage with industry stakeholders.
Each company will have at least one specific marketing opportunity during the welcome and introduction of learners at the exhibition. Bring your ideas to an exhibition where we will be flying the industry flag high and show your pride in the construction industry. It should be noted that participation in this event can count as part of Corporate Social Investment towards the Construction scorecard. Please see the attached sponsorship packages available.
I trust that you will consider this request for participation favourably and we look forward to your positive response. Once we have received confirmation, we will be in contact with you to discuss detail logistic arrangements in terms of the exhibition or sponsorship.
Yours faithfully
