The Rautenbach Room

This modern, air-conditioned room is on the lower ground floor and seats 48 delegates classroom style and 60 cinema style. It is equipped with a screen and a flexi rail on the wall which supports a white board and flipchart. Adjacent to it is a modern style serving counter with coffee shop type high tables, that can be used as a break away area where drinks snacks and interaction can take place, in a more relaxed and social environment.

About Pieter Rautenbach

The Rautenbach Room was named after Pieter Rautenbach who has enjoyed a long and accomplished career in service of the Association.

Pieter was born in Johannesburg and grew up in the North West Province. After matriculating from Potchefstroom Gymnasium, he underwent training as a Heavy Current Electrician in the Mining Industry. He also passed the Trade Test for an Electrical Wireman.

After qualifying, he worked for two years as an Inspector of Works (Electrical) in the former Transvaal Public Works Department.

History:

1962: Joined National Occupational Safety Association as a Junior Occupational Health & Safety Advisor.

1964: Transferred to Durban by NOSA, where he was seconded to the then Durban Master Builders Association for the launch of the first National Tidiness Safety Week. He was responsible for coaching both National Winners in the inaugural National Competition.

1965: NOSA transferred him to Bloemfontein.

1966: During the next two years in the Free State he coached two further National Safety Building Industry winners.

1968: Joined the former Union Steel Corporation where he established an Occupational Health & Safety Programme and also making a major contribution to the Star Grading system which is currently widely implemented.

1971: Made an important career change and joined the Electrical Contractors Association of South Africa as General Secretary and soon thereafter its first Executive Director.

After the retirement of Archie Smith who had been Executive Director of the Former Durban Master Builders Association for 30 years, he was headhunted to return to Durban.

1975: Became Executive Director of the Durban Master Builders Association on 10 November 1975, which subsequently in 1980 became the Natal Master Builders Association and in 1994 the KwaZulu-Natal Master Builders Association.

2007: Pieter retired as Executive Director and took on the role and responsibility of Projects Facilitator.

His employment service with Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal is about to reach the 33 year mark.
