A key mandate of the Association is to serve the greater good of its membership by being proactive in addressing matters that impact negatively on our Industry. Albeit that this objective is vigorously pursued through lobbying and advocacy, the Association prides itself on acquiring guest presenters for member meetings that have expert knowledge to share and to help members navigate their way through the various challenges they are faced with.   

To this end, throughout February 2020, the Association held various member meetings across KZN province where valuable information was imparted.

In Northern Natal, Vaughn Southey of Southey Attorneys presented on the options available to members when having to recover outstanding small debt. In the Midlands, Lee du Preez from BBBEE Innovation advised members on how to adapt their businesses to maximise BBBEE within our sector.

In the South Coast, Malcom Dale of Malcom Dale & Associates spoke on labour legislation with specific focus on the responsibilities of the employer, while in Zululand, Mrs Nonhle Ndunakasi, Compensation Fund Supervisor from the Department of Employment and Labour informed members of the various COIDA processes. During her presentation, she touched on the Department’s new online platform for submitting claims, she did however advise members against using it for now as they were experiencing systems glitches which needed to be overcome.  

In Durban, Peter Barnard of Cox Yeats Attorneys presented on payment guarantees and claims in terms of the JBCC.  

The presentation responded to a number of questions regularly posed by members.

Members are reminded that all member meetings are open to every member to attend. We encourage our members to take advantage of these engagements to not only seek valuable advice from the specialist presenters, but to also use the platform to network with colleagues in the industry.
