Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal remains wholly committed to addressing matters that impact on our Members. We accomplish this by ensuring appropriate representation on various forums and engaging with a variety of industry stakeholder bodies including government and non-government entities.

There have been reports of non-payment to members by municipalities for work completed and the Association has written to the relevant municipalities to engage on the matter and to seek resolution in the best interest of our members.

A meeting of Building Industry Forum (BIF) convened in August 2018. The Forum seeks to bring together key industry bodies and individuals to work in cohesion in collectively achieve common industry goals and objectives.

The Contractual and Legal Committee (C & L Committee) provides input on contractual and legal issues facing the industry. This also includes the JBCC/MBSA suite of contractual agreements and members will be pleased to know that the Association has submitted nominations to the JBCC drafting and review committees.

Workshops on the Good Practice Note, a guideline on the implementation of the amended Construction Sector Code and Preferential Procurement Regulations is underway throughout the Province. Workshops presented by Cox Yeats attorneys were conducted in Empangeni, Port Shepstone and Pietermaritzburg with positive feedback from members. The final workshop will take place in Durban on 4 September 2018 at the Association’s Westville premises. 

The Association attended the Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZCCI) Empangeni Division AGM where attendees were given an update on the status of N2 road upgrade affecting the Richards Bay Empangeni exit.  The project is slightly behind schedule, but the contractors remain positive for completion in June 2019.  At the AGM, Zululand Area Manager Paula Leah was elected as the 2018/2019 Chairperson for the Empangeni Chamber branch. This will no doubt hold the Association in good stead regarding engagement.
