In response to the need of our members and the industry in general, the Association launched the Training Academy in 2013, with the view to provide accredited, quality training which was in short supply.

Having acquired CETA accreditation, the Academy provides a wide range of training courses as is required by the Industry. A focus has been given to construction business development, site management, health and safety and technical skills.

The qualification National Certificate: Construction Contracting was developed to capacitate learners to start and manage their own construction contracting business. In addition, the qualifying learner will demonstrate competence in areas of specialisation. The qualified learner will be able to competently fulfill small construction contracts safely and in a professional manner, to ensure that industry standards are maintained.

This qualification has been developed to assist with standardisation across the building industry. This will allow persons to register as a Construction Contractor and lay a foundation for future career advancement across similar SMME programmes in other sectors as well as to supervisory and management qualifications within the construction sector.

The various unit standards from this qualification are also offered as stand-alone units for which the delegate will receive a certificate.

The qualification National Certificate: Supervision of Construction Processes was developed to provide a qualification for persons supervising the use of construction resources and construction work processes. Typical job roles would include foreman, general foreman, and superintendent.

The qualification reflects the skills, knowledge, and understanding required to be an effective supervisor in the Construction Industry, whether in micro, small, medium, or large operations.

This course consists of generic supervisory competencies, generic technical competencies, as well as "supervisory technical expertise" required in a specific context. The latter reflects the technical working knowledge and skills required to supervise a specific area of activity. The various areas of supervision are reflected in the elective component of the qualification.

This National Certificate will serve as a basis for learning towards the National Diploma in the Management of Construction Processes - NQF Level 5.

As a contribution to socio-economic transformation, learners would be able to undergo RPL-assessment and thereby receive recognition for previous learning and experience. Learner employability and career prospects can therefore be enhanced by this qualification.

Quality supervision in the construction industry will result in improved productivity, quality, safety and cost efficiency - thus improving service delivery of infrastructure and ultimately benefiting the economy.
The various unit standards from this qualification are also offered as stand-alone units for which the delegate receives a certificate.

The Qualification: National Certificate: Construction Health and Safety was developed to provide learners with a broad understanding and knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and controls. They will be able to deal with health and safety problems and issues on construction sites.

Qualifying learners will be able to responsibly, independently and effectively manage themselves on construction sites regarding generic health and safety issues. Learners will be able to identify and evaluate occupational safety, hygiene and environmental factors in occupational environments which may have a detrimental effect on the health and safety of people in such environments. Learners credited with this Qualification will be able to perform essential functions that promote a culture of health and safety on construction sites.

There is currently a shortage of qualified occupational health, safety and environmental practitioners with specific construction industry knowledge. The various unit standards from this qualification are also offered as stand-alone units for which the delegate receives a certificate.
