In November 2020, 15 new companies joined the Association while 3 former member companies successfully applied for membership reinstatement.

The upturn in member enrolment is perhaps indicative that the construction industry is gaining some momentum. Members should however be aware that while there are some positive signs, reports of building material shortages continue to surface. Moneyweb.co.za and other reputable news sites have reported critical shortages of materials including cement, steel, bricks and timber.

Members operating on KZN’s South Coast should take note that the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Economic Relief Plan was adopted for implementation at a Council meeting held on 30 November 2020. While the plan does offer relief to a variety of sectors, the following will be of particular interest to members:

With effect from December 2020 up to December 2021 Council to waive all building plan application fees and town planning application fees, including development upgrade levy. This relief benefit excludes applications to regularise illegal developments

Members are reminded that the Master Builders KZN App was introduced to promote members to the public. The App provides users with search results that start with members based nearest to their location. Members are urged to kindly notify the Association of change of address so that we can keep the data current to ensure accurate search results. The App may be downloaded from the Apple Store and Google Play Store.
