In order to help ease the severe impact of lockdown restrictions on our industry, the Association announced in May 2020 that it would be assisting by providing a membership fee discount for the 2020 / 2021 financial year. Since the announcement, a of flurry of payments were received, with a number of members having expressed their appreciation for some financial relief.

We are also pleased to report that despite these extraordinarily challenging times for our industry and business as a whole, a number of new members have joined the Association. It has come to the attention of the Association that in the Zululand area, there has been a re-emergence of site invasions. Members are reminded that the Association has recommended processes and procedures to follow in the event that this does occur. Members experiencing site invasions may also contact the Association for guidance and assistance.

We have received an increased number of enquiries regarding annual shutdown dates (or ‘builders shutdown’ as it is sometimes referred to) and how the Association views this in light of time lost as a result of the enforced lockdown. The Association does not recommend a shutdown period due to business time lost. It is recommended that where required the period from 24 December 2020 to 04 January 2021 may be recognised for purposes of the Holiday pay scheme and leave provisions.
