There are many organisations contributing towards an environmentally friendly workplace.  Making employees environmentally conscious by providing awareness programmes on sustaining and protecting the globe is crucial. The following contributes towards an environmentally friendly workplace:

Moving towards paperless solutions

Organisations should move towards completing daily tasks and operations by utilizing effective digital software solutions. Such software packages will ensure that majority of work is done online without printing documents, even signatures are inserted electronically. This process effectively contributes towards an eco-friendly environment.

Lower electricity usage

Simple things like switching off the light when not in use or removing the charger from a fully charged laptop for instance will make a difference to the planet. Organisations must encourage the practice of reducing electricity usage within the workplace. Electricity wastage has various detrimental effects on the planet.

Recycling

Identifying key points within the organisation such as the kitchen or office space in which recycling bins are placed to store recyclable items. Even old electronic devices and parts that take up space within the organisation should be recycled. Organisations should have colour coordinated bins for such purposes.

Working remotely

With the current pandemic and its impact, majority of organisations have embarked on the idea of working remotely. This saw a significant reduction in carbon emissions and contamination. Many organisations continue to work remotely and saw this as a benefit therefore depending on the type of organisation and its practicality, working remotely is contributing towards an environmentally friendly workplace.

Reusable items

Organisations should identify items within their workplaces that can be reused. Items can include reusing paper, reusable coffee mugs or water bottles, switching over to glass instead of paper cups for instance contributes towards an eco-friendly work environment.

Environmentally friendly office supplies

Organisations should aim to identify and purchase office supplies that are bio-degradable, reusable and recyclable. Such supplies have an eco-friendly sticker on its package making it easy to identify. Such changes from organisations and its employees will make a considerable difference to ensuring a sustainable planet.
