The Association has received a number of queries relating to the submission of entries for the Excellence in Construction Competition. Members who still intend to submit entries are urged to take cognisance of the cut-off date as there will be no extension of time given. Members are reminded that the cut-off date is 20 April 2021 and that entries received for 2020 will be carried over to the 2021 competition.   

In Zululand, the Association attended a Transnet SMME engagement, held in partnership with the Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The purpose of the event was to create a funding platform for Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises. In addition to government departments, several large financial institutions participated and provided information on funding mechanisms intended for the advancement of SMME’s. Members from the area who wish to find out more in this regard may contact the Association’s Zululand office. 

We have reported on the ongoing water supply issues on KZN’s South Coast and the impact it has had on member operations.  This month, in addition to further water supply issues, the movement of vehicles to and from sites were restricted as a result of blockaded roads and highways. Protesters who took to the streets obstructed parts of the N2 and R102 to strengthen their demands for water and employment. With KZN’s South Coast fairly limited with respect to alternative routes, members were forced to endure the inconvenience of limited access to sites.

The Association met with cidb who informed us of their challenges with incomplete applications, particularly for those applying from grades 2 to 9. In most instances, required documentation/information was missing which caused delays in the process. Members who apply for cidb gradings are encouraged to make sure that their application contains all the necessary information.
