The conversation around the shortage of trade skills has been taking place for many years. Various research projects have concurred with these sentiments. The quandary with which we are faced is that the route to a full qualification is often too long. In many cases these skills are required with urgency. To meet its immediate skills, the industry requires the implementation of quick impact short skill interventions.
Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal has responded to the needs of its members by extending an invitation to members to make application on behalf of staff to participate in a skills intervention for site supervisors and foremen. This intervention is based on the qualification: Supervision of Construction Processes which reflects the skills, knowledge and understanding required to be an effective supervisor in the construction industry whether in micro, small, medium or large operations.
The objective is to develop the following competencies:
- Occupational health and safety;
- Industry and organization procurement policies and norms used to prepare procurement documentation;
- Quality control and improvement in the construction environment conducted according to industry norms and specifications;
- Productivity control and improvement shown in accordance with industry norms and specifications;
- Organisational norms and human resource legislation; and
- Drawings are read, interpreted, and evaluated using specifications and industry norms.
Members are hereby invited to complete the attached application form and to submit it to Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal by Friday 28 January 2022.
