Now is the appropriate time for investment in skills development

Construction contractors have felt the impact of the steady decline in the construction activity. The cause of the construction industry’s decline has been attributed to several factors including:

  • Reduced government infrastructure spending
  • A depressed economy
  • Less foreign investment
  • Rising costs of materials
  • COVID-19

The positive is that the situation cannot remain as it is, and the pandemic will come to an end. With global and national recovery will come new investment, however, the need for infrastructure development remains.

The question then remains: how well positioned will the construction contractor be when the upswing begins?

This presents an opportune time to invest in skills development from managerial level through to technical skills development.

Master Builders KwaZulu-Natal Training Academy is well positioned to assist the construction contractor with a training skills analysis and completion of workplace skills plans annually.

The Academy also has a full suite of training courses from Construction Management to Site Supervision, Health and Safety and technical skills. Members of the Association also qualify for a discount on their training.

With the advent of COVID-19 also came a demand for training via online platforms which are available for all courses except technical skills.
