2024 Tax Season: Important Dates to Remember

Monday, 01 July 2024   (0 Comments)

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced the dates for the start of Filing Season 2024:

Individual taxpayers (non-provisional):

15 July 2024 to 21 October 2024

Auto-assessment notices

1 – 14 July 2024

Provisional taxpayers

15 July 2024 to 20 January 2025

Trusts

16 September 2024 to 20 January 2025

It is recommended that taxpayers gather all relevant documents and information required for submitting their tax returns. Individual taxpayers should ensure they have received their IRP5/IT3(a) and other tax certificates like medical aid, retirement annuity fund and any other third-party data, needed to determine their tax obligations. Should there be any changes to the 2024 auto assessment process, SARS will notify taxpayers thereof.

Taxpayers are encouraged to use eFiling or the SARS MobiApp to manage their tax affairs instead of trying to do it over the phone or in person. You can view and update your personal information such as banking details, address and contact details, online.

You can also use the SARS Online Query System  (SOQS) to retrieve your tax reference number and submit any required supporting documents. The System assists taxpayers who wish to raise queries with SARS without going into a SARS branch. You can send SARS a query via SOQS if you have forgotten your tax reference number, to submit supporting documents and more.

Should you still require an in-person visit you can make a booking online or send an SMS to request a booking.
