Advertorial: Apex Environmental - Assisting you with all your Asbestos needs

What we do

Apex Environmental, a SANAS 17020 accredited and Department of Employment and Labour (DeL) Approved Inspection Authority (AIA), is here to help you protect the health of your employees and comply with your legal obligations. With a comprehensive range of services offered in Occupational Hygiene and Environmental Monitoring Apex Environmental are second to none.

Why use us?

Due to the nature of the construction industry, employees are going to be routinely exposed to a variety of hazardous contaminants including Asbestos, which can result in significant adverse health effects if not adequately controlled. Reducing the likelihood of these health effects falls on the shoulders of the employers , as stipulated in section 8 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) 85 of 1993 as well as the Asbestos Abatement Regulations, 2020.

For the correct and safe removal of asbestos, the services of an AIA are required. Services offered include:

1.Asbestos Training

Apex Environmental Asbestos training covers all the important aspects of exposure and control for the safe removal of any Asbestos Containing Material. This includes, but is not limited to, safe handling practices, correct/safe methods of removal, engineering controls required, and appropriate PPE (including correct application thereof).

2.Identification Inventories and Risk Assessments

A comprehensive asbestos inventory and risk assessment that identifies the location,
approximate quantity, condition, and potential health risk of any Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) existing within the clients premises.

3.Bulk Sampling

Safe collection of any asbestos bulk samples. The samples will be sent to an Accredited Laboratory for analysis. Once analyzed, results will be sent in a comprehensive report format.

4.Compilation and Approval of Plans of Work

A written site-specific Plan of Work (POW) / method statement will be compiled and approved. The POW will provide legal and technical guidance regarding the handling of asbestos products in the appropriate manner so as not to pose any significant health risk to any employees and the public (where applicable). We will facilitate the signing of this document by the asbestos client and the registered asbestos contractor. Once signed, the POW will be submitted to the Chief Director: Provincial, Department of Employment and Labour on the clients behalf.

5.Air Monitoring, Inspection and Clearance

Assess potential asbestos exposures at the workplace to protect the health of employees. For the duration of the project, after each site visit, pre-liminary results (report format) are issued to the client whereafter personal exposure and final clearance monitoring results will be compared against the stipulated Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) for asbestos fibres and submitted at the end of the project.
